Charles R. Stanley

Charles Russell Stanley or “Chuck”, as he was referred to by all who knew and loved him, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2023, surrounded by his loving family after a short illness.


Chuck is predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary (Talbot) Stanley. He is survived by his daughters Kera Neylan (Jeff), Janice Putrino (Donald) and son Scott (Amy); his beloved grandchildren Emma Neylan, Grace (Matt) Mattia, Sophia and Sam Putrino, Sydney, Hailey, Ashleigh & Austin Stanley and many beloved family members and dear friends.


Chuck proudly served his country in the US Navy as an Aviation Electronics Technician III Class during the Korean Conflict from 1950 -1954. He served aboard the aircraft carriers USS Bon Homme Richard & Bennington. He was awarded numerous services medals, including the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Upon his return to the U.S., Chuck attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine where he received his bachelor’s degree in political science and economics and then received his MBA at the University of Chicago in 1960. While living in Burlington, Vt. post-grad, he was the given the opportunity to tutor a young woman struggling with her economics course at Trinity College and the rest was history. Chuck and Mary were married on November 21, 1964. With their three children in tow, family settled in Syracuse, New York in 1970, and Chuck had long and successful career as a marketing executive for General Electric. In his retirement years, Chuck enjoyed woodworking, creating many masterpieces for his family; he was an all-around craftsman. Chuck and Mary enjoyed traveling, spending as much time as possible with their children and grandchildren, camping, fishing and returning home to Kennebunk, Maine whenever possible. In his later years, his love of Genealogy became his most beloved hobby, sharing this passion with his son. Chuck will be greatly missed.


The family will receive friends at Farrell-Ryan Funeral Home, 777 Long Pond Road, Rochester, New York on Friday, April 14th from 3pm - 6pm, with a Military Honors ceremony beginning at 6pm. Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 15th at St. Mary’s Church at 10:00am, 15 St. Mary’s Place, Rochester, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations in Chuck's memory to the Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, 2652 Ridgeway Avenue, Rochester, New York 14626.
