Edward J. Lum

April 13, 1938 — August 7, 2022

Edward “Ted” Lum passed peacefully at 84 years old on August 7, 2022 joining his wife Kitty in eternal rest. Predeceased by his parents, Donald and Edna, his brother-in-law Jonathan, nephews Robert Knapp and Robert Cocilova, and Kitty, his recently departed wife. Ted now leaves his newly orphaned children to fend for themselves. They should be fine. Ted’s seven children are: Kathleen (Greg Godwin), Tim (Nancy McKnight), Margaret (Michael Foley), Kerry (Mark Morin), Matthew (Sharon), Michael (Tia) and Brigid (Edward McClenathan). Ted is also survived by his sisters and brothers: Sister Barbara Lum, SSJ, William, John (Carol) and Rosemary (Michael). Ted adored his seventeen grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Julia, Michael, Flor, Juan, Angel, Alejandro, Max, Aidan, Chloe, Katharine, Ewan, Fiona, Maira, Marla, Blaine, Ellery and Kerry. Ted was the son of a proud family and a wondrous neighborhood – he grew up on Flower City Park, in the heart of the Tenth Ward and in the shadow of Sacred Heart Cathedral. Ted and Kitty met in this neighborhood where they spent most of their six decades of marriage. There is a legend that Ted squired her away from the reaches of the convent as Kitty apparently contemplated becoming a nun but his wily charm prevailed and so off to the altar they went. Ted and Kitty enjoyed the friendship of many. There was much laughter among their friends and Ted no doubt contributed to this with his quiet, understated wit. To some, he was reticent but his economy of words reflected a man of utmost decency and a sly but never unkind sense of humor. Now the classic pairing of Ted and Kitty are together again and while absent in the here and now, our cherished memories will last forever. Family and friends are welcome to join us for Ted’s funeral Mass followed by a gathering. Mass will be at 10:00 am on Friday August 12 at St. Margaret Mary Church, 401 Rogers Parkway, Irondequoit. After the Mass, friends and family will gather at Camp Eastman, 1301 Lakeshore Blvd., Irondequoit. There are no calling hours.
