Jack Bansbach

November 30, 1931 — November 5, 2022

Jack passed on November 5, 2022 at age 90. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Janeth Anderson Bansbach, and sons John (Tammi) and James (Jennifer) and grandchildren Jack, Julia, Sarah and Laura, 4 greatgrandchildren, sister-in-law Hilda Bansbach, many nieces and nephews, and friends.

Jack taught for 35 years in the Greece Central School District. Over the years he volunteered with Greece Little League, Cub and Boy Scouts, Greece Food Shelf and the AARP volunteer income tax program. He was an active member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. He greatly enjoyed his family, friends, traveling, reading and the fellowship of his YMCA and golf buddies.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Flora Wilbur Bansbach, and siblings, Violet Doyle, Arthur, Evelyn Doyle, Lester and Wilbur. He graduated from West High School in 1949 and enrolled at what is now SUNY Brockport, travelling to classes by bus or hitchhiking. After one year he ran out of money and worked at General Motors and Ritter Company. In 1951 he joined the National Guard. In 1952 his best friend and Jan Anderson’s best friend introduced them to each other. In 1953 was drafted into the Army which sent him to Germany as an occupation troop. In early May 1955 he was discharged from the Army and on September 3, 1955, he and Jan married. He worked as a guard at Eastman Kodak Company for a few months before returning to SUNY Brockport. He took a lot of courses and was able to graduate early and was hired in 1956 to teach at Barnard Elementary School in the Greece Central School District. While teaching, Jack continued his education at Brockport and earned a master’s degree and many credit hours beyond. Their son John was born in 1956 and son James was born in 1957. In 1958, Jack, Jan and their boys moved to 238 Almay Road in Greece. In 1958, he and Jan joined Bethany Presbyterian Church. He remained an active member as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He and Jan also joined the young couples group at Bethany called “Shipmates” which for more than sixty years gave them many wonderful friends and happy experiences. In 1973, he changed schools from Barnard to Lakeshore Elementary School. In 1978, he and Jan moved to 161 Luddington Lane in Greece, where they became friends with some great neighbors. In 1991 he and Jan both retired from Greece Central. For more than 30 years after their retirement, they were blessed with good health and experiences with family and friends. In May 2022, they moved to the Village at Unity.
