Rochester: 68 years old, lost his short battle with cancer at the Leo Center, Friday March 24, 2017. Mike was born the oldest child of Hallie and Margaret Jenks of Newton Falls, NY, April 2, 1948. He is survived by his sister, Cheryl (Dick) Gerhard who Mike resided with for the last several years and his brother, Gerald (Vicki) Jenks of Potsdam, NY. He attended school in Star Lake, NY. He is also survived by 4 sons, David Phelps of Stump Creek, PA, Douglas (Marge) Phelps of Morrisdale, PA, Jerry and Mark Phelps of North East, PA and 5 daughters, Donna (Nelson) Lawrence of Gouverneur, NY, Boneta Borrerro of North East, PA, Carol Phelps of Cochranton, PA, Tammy (Howard) Orton of Baltimore, MD and Kelsey Allessi of Rochester, NY. He was blessed with 30 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. Beside his parents, he is predeceased by 2 sons, James Phelps of Oswegatchie, NY and Jeffery Phelps of North East, PA. He worked at Newton Falls Paper Mill in Newton Falls, NY before the family moved to Erie, PA where he managed Wendell's Small Engine Repair Shop. He then found his passion of woodworking and worked as a cabinet maker for many years. After retirement Mike's passion was enjoying the company of his best friends. You could often find him cooking their lunch at Ontario Beach and in the winter months hanging out with them at the Mall enjoying each others company. He inspired you to live life to the fullest and his addicting smile showed everyone he did just that. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to be a part of his life.

Friends may call 11-1 Sunday, April 2, 2017, his 69th Birthday at the funeral home, 777 Long Pond Rd. (between English and Latta). Funeral Service immediately following at 1PM. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations in Mike's memory to Hearts for ALS, NY, 1899 South Ave., Rochester, NY 14620.
