Vincent E. Dollard

September 22, 1917 — May 20, 2020

Vincent E. Dollard, age 102 passed away peacefully on May 20, 2020 at St Ann’s Community.
Vin had great friends from all walks of life, and he will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and delightful Irish wit! His greatest joy was his family, to whom he was completely devoted. He is survived by his five children, Philip (Paula), Elizabeth (Robert) Rothbard of FL, Rita (David) Santom of MA, Vincent (Sheila) of GA and Nancy (Brian) Buckley; 10 grandchildren, Lisa (Doug) Brayer, Courtney and Peter Rothbard, Holly (Nick) Biagioli, Philip and Alex Dollard, Ryan and Carlos Santom, Sarah and Jenny Buckley and 3 great-grandchildren, Hannah and Alex Brayer and Maya Biagioli, and one brother, Eugene. Despite being afflicted with macular degeneration, he never lost his Positive Mental Attitude, and advised his children and grandchildren to always keep their PMA!
Vin was born September 22, 1917 in Hamlin, NY, to Margaret (nee Hogan) and Philip Dollard. He attended Brockport High School, and went on to earn a B.S.degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he played football for the Fighting Irish and boxed in the Bengal Bouts.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy; during WWII, he trained Navy recruits at Great Lakes Naval Station and The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. It was there he met his “raven-haired beauty,” Jean Boyd. They were wed in 1947 and shared 72 happy years until Jean’s recent death in Dec. 2019.
Vin worked at the Genesee Brewing Company for close to 40 years, attaining the position of General Sales Manager. During his tenure at Genesee, he opened up new markets in the Northeast and was responsible for making Genesee such a recognizable brand outside of New York State. After retiring from Genesee, he enjoyed golf, gardening, travel with Jean, and of course, following ND football. He was president of the Notre Dame Club of Rochester, and was named Notre Dame Man of the Year in 1967. He was also actively involved in the Rochester Boxing Association for many years. Vin and Jean were parishioners of St. Margaret Mary, and later, of Christ the King parish in Irondequoit.
There will be a private viewing and graveside ceremony for immediate family on Monday, June 1st.
The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to those at St. Ann’s Community who provided Vinny with tender loving care over the years and to Cindy, his hospice nurse from Lifetime Care. For many years, Vin and Jean enjoyed the company and the loving support of both Sr. Stephanine Riley and Beverly Houston to whom we can never give enough thanks. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, https://www.goodwillfingerlakes.org/abvi/give-to-abvi/memorial-and-honorary-giving or to the St. Ann’s Foundation https://stannscommunity.com/waystogive/.
