Fe U. Latvala (Chiu) peacefully passed away at home with her family on January 18, 2026 after her battle with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy Body Dementia.
She was 76 years old. Fe was born in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines to Chiu Sian and Uy So Tin Chiu. The youngest of eight siblings, she moved to Cebu, Philippines at age 11, where she attended Catholic school at Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion. She graduated from Cebu Central Colleges (now known as the University of Cebu) in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at Perpetual Succour Hospital. In 1978, she was petitioned to travel to the U.S. and work as an RN at the former Savanna City Hospital in Savanna, Illinois. There, she met her husband of 27 years, William (“Billy”); they later moved to Los Angeles, California and finally to Rochester, New York. Fe left nursing in 1981 due to medical reasons and transitioned into banking and finance. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in the fall of 1982. She worked her way from bank teller to assistant branch manager and retired from HSBC after 23 years. She spent the remainder of her years enjoying time with her friends, family, and pets, which meant everything to her.
She is predeceased by her parents, Chiu Sian and Uy So Tin Chiu; husband, William H. Latvala, Jr.; and five siblings: Lourdes Chiu, Lydia Laohoo, Camello Chiu, Ricardo Chiu, and Nicholas Chiu. She is survived by her daughter, Sasha M. Latvala; grandchildren, Miah Latvala and Lorenzo Latvala-Henderson; and two siblings: Carmen Go and Jose Chiu.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Jennifer Corcoran and URMC’s Neuropalliative Team, as well as RRH’s Home and Hospice Care Services.
