Gary Philip Comfort was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. It is with great sadness that our family had to say good-bye to this wonderful man. Under Hospice Care at home, Gary Comfort peacefully passed on November 13, 2023 at the age of 84.He is predeceased by his parents Frank and Ethel Comfort; two infant children Patricia and Kevin; brother-in-law Bob Yanus, sister-in-law Carolyn Hands and sister-in-law Carol Yanus. Survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Janet; children Gary (Gina), Todd (Mandie), and Tracy (Michael) Moran; grandchildren Crissandra, Hayley, Max, Alex, Mitchell, Sophia; brother Richard (Marcia); brother-in-law John Yanus (Shellie); and several nieces and nephews.
Gary was born in Rochester New York and grew up on Joslyn Place and Park Ave. He spent a great deal of time causing chaos with his cousin, Bobby Gulian, on the streets of the city. Including riding his bike down the staircase in their home and out the front door. His brother, Richard, was the quiet one and had his hands full keeping his brother Gary out of trouble. Gary spent many summers at his dear Aunt Eva and Uncle Mike's cottage where he loved to catch frogs and fish. Growing up he loved to drag race at the Monroe County Fair Grounds where he fell in love with all thing's automobile.
Around 16, Gary met the love of his life at a going away party for one of Janet's friends. They loved to drive around, stop for coffee and visit friends and relatives. At 17, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps with his brother and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He wore the uniform with dignity and honor. "Once a Marine, Always a Marine." "Semper Fidelis"
In September of 1961, Gary and Janet tied the knot at St. John's The Evangelist Church on Humboldt Street. They were happily married for 62 years. In November of 1966, they moved into a new ranch on Erath Drive in Greece where they raised their three beautiful children and made wonderful friends and memories. Gary spent numerous hours under the hood of a car in his garage and reluctantly had to "brake" for dinner. Gary enjoyed driving tractor trailer for 20 years and was a member of Teamsters Local 118.
Gary was the life of the party; felt he was the mayor of the street and always around to lend a hand. You could always see Gary smoking a cigar while cutting his lawn and bushes with a smile and a wave. He loved to joke around with his neighbors and was up for a cup of coffee any time with his friends. They enjoyed many great times in Las Vegas, Cape May New Jersey and parts of Europe. Gary would always say he lived a wonderful life with no regrets.
Gary will forever be remembered as a loving, kind and devoted man. His family will continue to honor his legacy by living life to the fullest.
