Passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 73 years, Jessie, and is survived by his children Karen (Billy) Rice, Brian (Anne) Smith, and Laurie Smith; his sisters Valerie Riemer and Sandra (Dick) Randazzo; four grandchildren Andrew (Emily), Scott (Abby), Christine, and Rachael (Stefan); and five great-grandchildren Margaret, Logan, Zeke, Zoey, and Cole. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Jerry was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and proudly served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Panama during the Korean War. He later built a long and successful career at Kodak, retiring in 1985 as a department manager in the Paper Division.
Jerry and Jessie shared a deep love of staying active and adventuring together. They enjoyed skiing, biking, racquetball, tennis, and traveling the world while raising their family. Jerry was an avid runner who completed multiple marathons. He also spent countless hours at Arrowhead Golf Course—not only golfing but working in the pro shop and caring for the flower gardens.
Family was always at the center of Jerry’s life. He and Jessie rarely missed a chance to cheer on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren at soccer, lacrosse, and hockey games. Jerry was well known for his signature shorts, worn proudly in all kinds of weather.
Jerry remained active and independent until the very end. He met friends every morning for coffee and was a regular at the Olympia Restaurant, where he was warmly embraced as part of the family.
Jerry will be remembered for his dedication to family, easygoing nature, and his love for the Buffalo Bills. His love and legacy will live on through his family.
Calling hours will be held 4-6pm Thursday, January 22 at Farrell-Ryan Funeral & Cremation Services, concluding with a service at 6pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hildebrandt Hospice.
