Hanna Antypova (née Starodubtseva), age 88, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted Orthodox Christian, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, in Rochester, New York, surrounded by her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, hard work, and unwavering faith.

Hanna was born on March 2, 1938, in Trenevka, Russia, to Yakov Starodubtsev and Nina (Cherenkova). She was the youngest of their children and grew up surrounded by her brothers and sister. She was predeceased by her sister, Vera, and her brothers, Vasiliy, Viktor, and Yuriy.

Hanna devoted 52 years of her life to nursing, dedicating herself to caring for others. She worked as a nurse for many years and devoted herself especially to the children in her community. Through decades of hard work and service, she rose to become the head nurse of the Children's Hospital in Alchevsk, Ukraine.

For Hanna, nursing was more than a profession—it was a calling. She cared deeply for those entrusted to her and was known for her compassion, dedication, and willingness to help anyone in need. Her life's work touched countless children, families, and colleagues.

Hanna was a woman who worked hard her entire life. She knew the meaning of sacrifice and responsibility, but despite life's hardships, she remained a kind and generous soul. If someone needed help, Hanna would do whatever she could to help them. She gave freely of herself, often putting the needs of others before her own.

In 2022, following the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Hanna made the difficult journey to the United States to be with her granddaughter and family. She made her home in Rochester, New York, where she spent the final years of her life surrounded by the love and care of her family.

Her Orthodox Christian faith was an important part of who she was. She carried her faith throughout her life and remained devoted to God through both joyful and difficult times. Her faith, prayers, and example became an enduring part of the spiritual legacy she passed to her family.

Hanna was predeceased by her beloved husband, Viktor Antypov, and her granddaughter, Galina Sherina.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Iryna Sherina; her granddaughter, Valeriia Sherina, and Valeriia's husband, Ian Perry; and her great-grandchildren, Veronika Perry, Claudia Perry, and Marc Perry.

To her family, Hanna was so much more than the roles she held in life. She was a source of strength, wisdom, warmth, and unconditional love. She was the person who taught by example that kindness matters, that those in need should never be turned away, and that a life of service is a life of meaning.

Her family will remember her gentle heart, her strength, her hardworking hands, her deep faith, and the countless ways she cared for the people around her.

Though she is no longer with us, the love she gave and the lessons she taught will continue through her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched.

Funeral Service

A funeral service for Hanna will be held on September 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church.

Family and friends are invited to join together in prayer and remembrance as we celebrate Hanna's life and commend her soul to God's loving care.
