John Bailey Scott Jr.

December 1, 1931 — April 17, 2024

Passed away April 17, 2024 at age 92. He is predeceased by mother Helen Pierce Scott of Martville, NY, father John B Scott Sr. of Oswego, NY, and stepmother Marie Scott. John is survived by Kathryn, his wife of almost 69 years; sons Steven (Cheryl) and Brian (Carol); grandchildren Ryan Andrew (Angel), Alyssa Christine (David); great grandchildren Elizabeth, Sean, Jack, Deaglan, and Hadley; his sisters Helen, Carole, Debbie, and brother Duane along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

John was an intelligent, thoughtful man who was loving and caring for his wife, two sons, daughter's in-law, two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He always had projects that he was working on-beginning with designing and building the family home. Known for being thrifty, he did all the home improvement projects and restored several automobiles for the family's use. With his curious and engineering nature, he could build or fix anything that he put his mind to. His woodworking prowess resulted in countless projects enjoyed by many family members. He loved his entire extended family and was well known for the best hugs.

From 1962-65 he and Kathryn built a home on 3 acres of land on Atlantic Avenue in Walworth, NY. They had the shell of the house built by a builder. With Kathryn's help, John did much of the work himself to install aluminum siding, drywall, heating system, interior doors, and wood trim. John also designed, made, and installed custom kitchen & bathroom cabinets, laid linoleum, ceramic tile, and hardwood flooring, and did all the related painting and finishing. In 1967, he also built an apartment for his mother-in-law (who thought the world of him) and a three-car garage. In 1991, John started work on his dream woodworking shop-a 36'x56' 2 story gable-style structure, complete with space for his tractor and lumber storage. Many wood projects were completed there in the following years.

John was an Airforce veteran having served from 1950 to 1954. He trained in electronics and radar at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX; Keesler AF Base in Biloxi, MS; and Travis AF Base in Sacramento, CA where he served as a Technician for Radar and Counter Measures on the B-36 Peacemaker-a long range bomber which was a part of The Strategic Air Command.

John worked in various supervisory roles at Stromberg-Carlson, General Dynamics, and Cunningham Corp, and as a Manufacturing Engineer at Xerox Corp. He was involved in the development and production of Xerox copy machines before retiring in 1996.

Though not affiliated with any church, John always considered himself a Christian. He was brought up in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, which contributed to his life-long beliefs against smoking, drinking, and gambling. He was always tolerant of other viewpoints but clung closely to his own code of conduct which included loyalty, fidelity, and loving people unconditionally.
