Born on July 4th, 1963, in Rochester, New York, Mrs. Joyce Brown-Gross embodied a life of love, care, and dedicated service to others. She was the sixth of seven siblings born to Vincent and Charlotte Monroe-Brown and carried the family’s spirit of love and generosity throughout her life.
Joyce’s warmth, kindness, and her radiant smile would light up any room. Her gentle spirit and unwavering commitment to family were the hallmarks of her life. She was a loving wife to Douglass Gross and a devoted mother to Roger Coley Jr., Anthony Coley (Yasmin Coley), and Leonora Coley. Her legacy also lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Aziah Coley, Kadaysha Reaves, Azion Coley, Alani Coley, and Amari Coley.
Throughout her life, Joyce served her community in many ways, working at Kodak, in various nursing homes, and at Anthony Jordan Health Center. But no matter the job, family was always her priority. She had a green thumb and took pride in nurturing her plants, and she shared that same nurturing spirit with everyone she encountered. She had a peaceful and welcoming nature, always opening her doors to those in need and ensuring no one left her home hungry.
Joyce enjoyed cooking, lively games of spades, and long talks on the front porch, offering her listening ear and heartfelt advice to anyone who needed it. Her love for people and her dedication to making others feel seen and heard were truly special gifts.
Mrs. Joyce Brown-Gross passed away on May 26th, 2025. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Charlotte Brown-English and brother Syjesman Brown. She is survived by her siblings Vincent Brown, Victor Brown, Mahalia Brown-Cash, and Kenneth Brown, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and special friend John Coley.
Joyce’s legacy of love, care, and selfless service to her family and community will be remembered always. Funeral services will be held at First Genesis Baptist Church on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, at 11 a.m., with viewing at 10 a.m. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
