Survived by devoted husband David B. Holley, beloved daughter Sara Giambra, cherished stepchildren James, Matthew, Stephanie Holley. Predeceased by loving father John Ognibene and father-in-law Bert Holley and former husband Michael Giambra. Survived by aunt & godmother Lena Kroboth, many cousins including Mary Ellen (Dan) Bamburoski, Nancy Lynn (Wayne) Bailey, brother-in-law John (Lisa) Holley. She is also survived by many longtime friends, especially those from her Bunco group. Karen was a 1996 retiree of Rochester Telephone Corp./Frontier and a 23 year Buffalo Bill season ticket holder.
She could often be seen on the local news at the Buffalo Bills game in her goofy Bills glasses, and hat. Ever present at her side in that front row, her devoted husband, Dave; whom she shared 35 laughter filled years with. In her youth she was adventurous, traveling to many European countries and even going to the Bahamas on a solo trip! Though she lately found her thrills at the Sketchers store searching for sparkly shoes, no one would guess that she once had a bartender's license and rode a motorcycle! There was more to this remarkable woman than met the eye. Funny, gregarious, and sentimental - our Karen (Bugsy, to family) has left behind so much love and joy filled memories to help ease our sorrow.
Karen will be remembered for her warm smile, her love for family and friends and for how she found joy in the little things in life. With her unwavering compassion and generous spirit, Karen sent out ripples of kindness into the world. She always showed up for the people in her life and took every opportunity to let them know how much they meant to her. It is hard to imagine a world without her, but she will live on in the memories of those who loved her.
At Karen's request there will be a wake but no public viewing. Calling hours will be held 4-7 PM Thursday, November 20 at Farrell-Ryan Funeral & Cremation Services, and 11 AM - 12 PM Friday, November 21 at the funeral home concluding with a funeral service there at 12 PM immediately followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to the Rochester Animal Services Center, 184 Verona St., Rochester, NY, 14608.
