Lawrence “Larry” Mandel, passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was predeceased by his beloved wife of many years, Rosemary (Erwin) Mandel; his parents, Lawrence A. and Marie A. (Sweeney) Mandel; and his sisters, Mary S. (Thomas) Wilhauck and Nancy E. Mandel.
He is survived by his devoted children, Lawrence J. (Diane), James (Ellen), Jeannine (Alan), and Gregory (Jill). Larry was a proud and loving grandfather to Christy (AJ), Melissa (Kathryn), Jesse (Laura), Louis (Hayley), Natalie (Dylan), Dallas, and Shane (Lauren), and a joyful great-grandfather to Quintin, Cooper, Raelyn, Brooke, Finn, Sloane, Bodie, Emmett, James, Stevie, Arthur, Reese, and Peyton. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Julie Erwin, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
Forever thankful to Larry's loving and caring extended family of neighbors and caregivers: Gary and Chris, Marie, Peggy, Renee (the Craft Lady), Laura, Adrianna, and Riley.
Larry grew up in Rochester, New York, and attended Aquinas Institute. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Tidewater during the Korean War. Following his service, he went on to enjoy a successful career with RG&E, though many may not have known that Larry was also a remarkably talented carpenter. His craftsmanship was not just a profession, but a passion and an expression of love and crafting beautiful tables for his beloved wife, Rosie.
Larry found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments: Friday night family dinners, time spent in Port Bay, fishing, attending Saturday 4 p.m. Mass, cheering on the Buffalo Bills, and the occasional trip to Las Vegas—especially visits to the Flamingo—always alongside his bride, Rosemary.
Larry will be remembered for his steady presence, his devotion to family, his skilled hands, and the quiet love he showed through everything he did. He leaves behind a legacy of family, faith, service, and love that will continue through generations. Rest easy pops
