Lidia Tkaczevski
Passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026 at the age of 91. Lidia was born in Zegreb, Yugoslavia on March 3, 1935 to the late Anatoly Zaharzherskij and Tamara Sirks. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Valentin and son, Sergio Tkaczevski. She is survived by her children, Alejandro (Victoria Johanna) and Helen (Andrej) Strapko; grandchildren Theodore, Michael, Melanie, Mark, Alexandra, Natalie, Katherine, and Nicholas; and great grandchildren, Andrew, Alexander, Sophia and Zoe.
A devoted member of the Protection of the Mother of God Russian Orthodox Church for many years, Lidia lived her faith with deep conviction, humility, and love. Lidia became an American citizen, but always kept a deep sense of belonging to her parents' homeland in Russia.
She was a lifelong participant and scout leader with О.Р.Ю.Р. (St. George Pathfinders of America), where she touched the lives of countless young people through her service, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to the organization's mission.
A gifted writer and an eloquent speaker on contemporary moral, ethical, and philosophical topics, she spoke at many conferences throughout the decades. She had close friends all over the world with whom she frequently corresponded and conversed.
Lidia started her medical career in Argentina, conducting research in the early days of virology and electron microscopy. After immigrating to the US she spent most of her career as a pathologist for St. John's Hospital in NYC.
She was an avid reader and was fluent in several languages, including Russian, Spanish, and English, and read books in all three languages. Up until just a couple weeks ago, she was catching up on all the classics, for example, Dante's Divine Comedy.
Her faith, warmth, humor, intellect, generosity, and devotion to her community will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Panachida will be held on Thursday, June 11th at 6 PM at Protection of the Mother of God Russian Orthodox Church (100 Stanford Drive, Henrietta NY). A Funeral Service will be held there at 8 AM Friday, June 12th. Internment at Novo-Diveevo Cemetery, (100 Smith Rd, Nanuet, NY) around 3 PM on Friday, June 12th.
