Michael John Henchen
It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the sudden passing of Michael John Henchen on June 12, 2026, at the age of 78. A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud veteran, and loyal friend, Mike lived a life defined by selflessness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
Born on December 16, 1947, to John and Therese Henchen, Mike was raised on Mill Road and attended Spencerport schools. From an early age, he embodied the values of hard work, humility, and service that would guide him throughout his life. He proudly served his country as a Marine and Vietnam veteran, carrying that honor with quiet dignity and deep pride for the rest of his days.
At the center of Mike's life was his loving wife, Nancy, with whom he shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a family grounded in love, faith, perseverance, and devotion. Their partnership was a testament to enduring commitment, and through every triumph and challenge, they remained steadfastly by each other's side.
One of the most remarkable examples of their love was their devotion to their son, Jay. After a motorcycle accident left Jay paralyzed at the age of 19, Mike and Nancy dedicated more than three decades to his care. Their strength, sacrifice, and unconditional love became an inspiration to all who witnessed it.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Henchen; his children, Carrie (Todd) Zigrossi, Jay (Jennifer) Henchen, and Jeff Henchen; and his treasured grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy and pride to his life: Julia and Emily Zigrossi, and Alison and Ryan Henchen, along with their mother, Jill. He is also survived by his brothers, Mark (Joanne) Henchen and Donald (Denise) Henchen; his sister, Christine (Dennis) Spangenburg; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Robert (Sheryl) Ras, Cynthia (Paul) McConologue, and Michael (Colleen) Ras; along with many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, James.
Family was Mike's greatest joy and highest priority. For more than 50 years, he eagerly anticipated the annual Father's Day weekend fishing trip, a cherished tradition filled with laughter and storytelling. From summer trips with his wife and children to Henderson Harbor, fishing trips with Jeff in Costa Rica, adventures in Las Vegas with Jay, and relaxing in Florida with Carrie, family was always at the heart of everything he did. Mike was a constant presence at his grandchildren's sporting events, performances, and activities, proudly cheering them on from the sidelines and celebrating every accomplishment, big or small. It was no secret that his grandchildren were the light of his life.
Mike also found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved his solo trips to Las Vegas, visiting casinos with his longtime friend and casino partner, George Wacker. He treasured mornings spent sharing coffee with the "Panera Group," breakfasts at the Parkway Diner, and countless hours searching for golf balls.
Those who knew Mike will remember his gentle spirit, warm smile, and generous heart. He never hesitated to help a neighbor, support a friend, or lend a hand to anyone in need.
Mike's life was measured not by possessions or accomplishments, but by the love he gave, the sacrifices he made, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and generosity. Ultimately, the life he built with his family was his greatest accomplishment.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24th from (2-4 PM) with a service following at 4PM. Farrell Ryan Funeral & Cremation Services 777 Long Pond Rd. Rochester, NY 14612
