Phyllis Meredith

March 3, 1925 — February 26, 2025

Rochester

Phyllis Aileen Meredith passed away peacefully at the age of 99 years, just 5 days short of her 100tn birthday, on February 26, 2025.
Phyllis was born on March 3, 1925, in Geneva, Ohio to Mildred Smith (Thompson) and William Smith. She was the oldest of five children, Barbara, Marjorie, Millie and Michael.
She was predeceased by her parents and faithful husband of 73 years, Fredrick Albert Meredith.

As a young girl Phyllis moved to Utica, New York and then later to the Charlotte area of Rochester, NY. On November 11, 1946, she married and started a family of her own. Phyllis was a long-time member of Hope Lutheran Church where she volunteered much of her time as her children were growing up. She was a talented quilter and enjoyed participating in quilting clubs throughout her adulthood. She was extremely creative and enjoyed sewing projects, paper crafting, and journaling. Phyllis had a gentleness with animals and had many pets throughout her lifetime in addition to "adopting" any needy creature that may cross her path. She volunteered at the Greece Public Library, area nursing homes, and was a foster parent. Although Phyllis dedicated much of her life to being a homemaker, she was a life-long learner and took every opportunity to educate herself. Whether through reading, attending community events or engaging in self-study, she continuously expanded her knowledge and curiosity about the world. Her grandchildren will lovingly remember her for fun times by her pool, warm quilts on her green summer lawn, orange soda and picking berries from the yard.

Phyllis is survived by her siblings, her children William (Donna) Meredith, Judy (Tom) Flaherty, and Susan (Joe) Bertola; her grandchildren William (Terry) Meredith, Jr., Heather (Jeff) Withall, John (Katie) Bertola, Adam (Alexis) Bertola, Patrick (Ashley) Flaherty; her great-grandchildren Cody, Elizabeth, Will, lan, Linden, Marin, Brennan, Benjamin, Nicholas, Kiley, Grayson; and her great-great grandchildren Ambrose and Silas.

Phyllis' life reflected her faith and love for God. She sought His kingdom first and her devotion to Him was evident to those who knew her. As we remember her, we recall the words of Matthew 6:33 as highlighted in her bible: "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well". We find peace in knowing that she has now received the greatest reward- eternal life in his presence.

No prior calling hours, burial will be at the convenience of the family. If you would like to send a remembrance, please consider a donation to Hope Lutheran Church in Phyllis' honor.
