Robert Charles Tompkins “Bob” born March 2nd 1929 in Rochester, New York. Predeceased by his parents Mabel and Bernard Tompkins, Brother / Sister in Law Richard and Joyce Tompkins, and Grandson Patrick Mallen. Survived by loving wife, life partner Sally Seymour Tompkins of 69 years. Daughters Susan (Tom) Mallen of Pittsburgh, PA, Carol (Erik) Van Bork and Grandchildren Ryan Mallen, Erin Mallen, Martha Van Bork, Harrison Van Bork and Noah Van Bork.
Bob served in the US Army as part of the Army Security Agency (ASA) stationed in Hokkaido, Japan during the Korean War (1951-1954). After his war service Bob worked for Kodak for more than 30 years in Data Processing and Payroll.
Bob met Sally while they both worked in the Floral Business. They shared 69 years of loving marriage and raised two daughters Susan (Tom) Mallen and Carol (Erik) Van Bork who both shared his values of serving others, loving nature, with integrity, kindness and love.
Bob lived an inspired life defined by dedication to family, hard work, a deep love for the outdoors and growing things. Bob was an avid gardener, birder and found joy and peace in the outdoors and nature. Bob also enjoyed Curling at the Rochester Curling Club for more than 40 years. Bob had a great sense of humor and always had a joke or two ready. Bob was passionate about his gardening, growing huge tomatoes every year. Bob enjoyed helping others whether in the neighborhood or through church. Bob was a lifetime Presbyterian member.
Bob was a proud grandpa to Ryan, Erin, Martha , Harrison and Noah. His presence in their lives was a source of wisdom, kindness, humor and love.
Bob will be remembered for his caring ways, generosity, kindness, making those around him feel cared for, supported, lending a hand and a good joke.
